FVDT research is focused on developing critical data for the advancement of piloted an uninhabited flight vehicle design and development. The group utilizes computational design tools and experimental testing to take concept designs of novel aircraft and aircraft components to flight-worthy test articles.
Student research currently supports design activities that include:
- High altitude solar-regenerative morphing aircraft design
- Highly-maneuverable high-speed experimental drone aircraft design research
- High-speed low-observable uninhabited submersible aircraft design
- Bioinspired wing and multi-winglet design for adaptive soaring flight
